Putting your experience into words helps, improving your mental and physical health. Talking about or writing about trauma brings you closer to understanding, and therefore accepting, your reality.

It is easy to dissociate ourselves from actual experience, choosing to walk away from the unexplained, jumbly mess on the floor in front of us.  Consider enacting this metaphor: label your feelings and neatly file them away out of sight but somewhere still accessible. This allows you to recognize your trauma and find the space to heal and move on.
