Growth Mindset

Growth Mindset

People who have a growth mindset and believe that their abilities can be developed show greater error correction, less emotional distress to setbacks, and tend to improve more.

Fixed-Mindset

People with fixed-mindset believe that situations and abilities cannot change easily. They are more vulnerable to helplessness, poorer stress coping, and lower well-being.

In every situation, we have a choice to choose our response. After injury or a ‘failure’ during rehabilitation, remind yourself or the athlete you’re supporting that emotional and physical setbacks are an opportunity to learn, improve, or even develop in new ways. Emotional and physical setbacks are not evidence of inability. Try adding the word “yet” to the end of negative self-talk or statements previously fixed on helplessness.
