There is more and more science to support that belief is considered a self-fulfilling prophecy. What we believe to be true in our mind influences how our body and biology functions.

Simply put, negativity slows healing while positivity supports healing and builds on itself. Extremely beneficial to the time and labor-intensive rehabilitation process, optimism boosts motivation and protects against passivity or defeatist attitude. It also increases positive emotions, making you less vulnerable to depressive emotions that slow healing. Optimistic thinking supports more effective active coping.

 

Do what you believe and what you want to be true align? There is a difference.

Work on cultivating a growth mindset. Pay attention to your thoughts and words; they inform you of your beliefs and they fuel your action and outcome. Focus on your interpretation of unfortunate events in your life as they might arise. Do you find yourself expecting defeat or failure? Can you reframe your perspective so to consider the event temporary or an opportunity to learn. This effort, related to mindfulness, will dampen the emotional impact, allowing you a headspace conducive to healing your body.
