People who believe they can overcome challenges or achieve something they want to have higher motivation, resilience to adversity, are less vulnerable to stress and depression, and may have reduced pain perception.

To increase self-efficacy and optimism, try to cultivate a growth-mindset in you or the athlete in your life. Surrounding the athlete with social support and community also increases self-efficacy.
